Third Day of New York
Posted: October 11, 2009
So Day Three started off slowly, but much like yesterday. We got coffee (hot chocolate for me) from Starbucks across the street and took off to go find Mood Designer Fabrics. I thought it would be fun to see…and to see if there might be something I would like there.
We ended up getting off at a place close to Mood, but we weren’t sure if the numbers of the buildings would line up. We didn’t want to miss it so we crossed from 34th to 37th and walked down. While we walked, we stopped off at a few stores. We were in the Fashion District and it’s full of fun stores that carry all sorts of fabrics, beads, ribbon, etc. There was one store dedicated solely to stretchy fabrics.
We walked past the headquarters for Girl Scouts of America. It was a lovely building. Very tall, probably 20-30 stories. I was amazed that they would have such nice facilities.
I stopped off and purchased two pairs of earrings at a corner store called “Trendy Corner”. It was all over the place, but I managed to find a couple things. Then we meandered down until we found Mood.
We rode an elevator up and the doors opened to Mood Designer Fabrics. It was huge! I was so in awe I almost didn’t hear the guy asking me to check my bag at the door. I wandered and promptly found a lovely fabric that I couldn’t live without. Leave it to me to choose the fabric that had one of the highest price tags around. But I loved it and, I mean, how many times am I going to be here?
Once we left we ended up walking to a shopping area and spent most of our time there. We got a little bit of food to take the edge off and then we went to Conway’s, Macy’s, H & M, Lush, Old Navy, and Forever 21. Quite a bit of shopping. Then we headed back to drop off our bags and find some food.
JD found a cute little Italian place called Cucina di Pesce (Kitchen Fish??) and we had an enjoyable meal there. The bathroom left much to be desired. Most bathrooms that I have visited have made me wonder what kind of germs they carry. They are so gross.
When we returned home, we ended up having to wait in the sauna that was the sub-subway platform for the train. They are working on some of the tracks so this weekend’s trains are all messed up. Plus they don’t run quite as many at night because there are fewer people.
I’ve also seen my first few homeless people. They look through the trash for recycling & food, sleep in the subway stations, and wander around. It’s very sad to see. New York is making an effort to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless and to get people to chip in to help. I’m wondering how successful they’ll be.
Anyway, I’m tired. Type more later.
Goodnight,
-Melissa
